Reason – Busy Season

April 2, 2009 on 8:18 pm | In Uncategorized | No Comments

The reason I haven’t written in such a long time is tax season. I’m almost through my first busy season in Public Accounting. I’m surviving. It’s actually not as horrendous as I expected. True, I have to work 6 days a week but no 16-hour days. The latest I’ve been at work has been 9:00 pm, not 1:00 am.

We work hard and usually though lunch but don’t have to worry about dinner, our firm pays for it. It’s funny how much difference food can make. For instance the work days on Saturday are made fun by bagels and muffins in the morning and nice lunch, both provided by our employer. It sure makes the day more fun.

As far as the workload goes, we are really busy and it gets stressful, at times, but in my experience, no worst than my previous jobs. The really good thing is that I’m learning a lot about audit. Most everybody I work with is very knowledgeable, hardworking and helpful. Now that the audits are getting wrapped up, I get to work on the tax side and am getting tax experience as well.

Outside of work, I still get to hit the gym and do all of my cooking. I don’t have as much energy and strength but for the first time in many years, I didn’t gain my usual 10 winter pounds.

On March, 7 I opened the 4th-of-July-Madness Season with my first run for the year. Due to busy schedule I’ve been averaging one run a week but hope to bring the number up to 2 or 3. March proved to be not very accommodating for outdoor running and I had a couple of runs where I could see my breath but it April now and the 4th of July clock is ticking.
