The Work After Work

July 17, 2008 on 3:38 pm | In Food for Thought, Friends | No Comments

I’m not sure if I can blame my lack of blogging entirely on my devotion of 2008 to taking all 4 parts of the CPA exam. I guess I’m in a different routine now living in NY and working in accounting.

I was thinking the other day that I miss blogging about my daily routine and achievements. I like to keep myself busy but I also miss having some spare time to not have any idea what to do with. I was talking to Paul, who is a teacher and school is out for the summer, on my way back from work yesterday and he said that he had just finished watching a movie and expresses a slight feeling of guilt for just chilling and watching TV. The enjoyment of being super busy and check-off the daily tasks in a mental or sometimes physical checklist is one of the many things we share in common.

Knowing how insanely busy Paul usually is – working fulltime at the school, always working on a part-time project through school, being involved in all kinds of extracurricular activities with his students, working his official second job at Houlihan’s, mixing amazing CD’s with the latest and greatest of electronic dance music, attending every social event of his dozens of friends and their families, being the epitome of devoted son and brother to his immediate family, not to mention being an active participant of NY night life – I didn’t hesitate to urge him to enjoy and savor the few free moments he gets.

I was very persuasive in convincing him but as he said the think that got my point across was sharing my Tuesday-night crammed-in schedule attempting to get some things done so that I have all fronts covered and my weekend to enjoy:

After work I rushed to the gym, from there I got home to pick up my dirty laundry; while my laundry was washing I studied; after the switch I grabbed a few things that I don’t tumble dry, got in my car and went back home, hung them on the line and walked in my house to prepare my salad for my early-lunches for the next few days and threw a chicken breast in the skillet; even before I had a chance to eat one of the salads with the chicken I had to return to the Laundromat and fold and pick up my laundry; I eat while cooking my egg whites and tofu that supplement my early-lunch salads and then did my bed and put the laundry away. This exercise ended around 10:30 or 11:00pm, which gave me enough time to check my email and read in bed for about 5 pages. It’s no surprise I don’t miss not having a TV!
