2 Years Smoke Free!
May 16, 2008 on 4:10 pm | In 4th of July Madness | No CommentsToday, May 16, 2008 marks 2 years since I quit smoking!
It has been 2 years but it feels more like 7. It seems so foreign to me now. I’m very happy that I never miss smoking. Coffee on the other hand I crave and miss terribly. This is my second week in which I don’t drink it everyday; I’m doing OK with it but miss the smell.
Twice the Fish, None the Coffee
May 9, 2008 on 11:41 am | In 4th of July Madness, Fitness & Nurtition | No CommentsI’m cautious about setting up a trend that I wouldn’t be able to maintain. 4th-of-July-madness started as body image driven initiative but it grew into a healthy living motto. Two years ago I quit smoking as part of the 2006 4th-of-July-madness. Last year I simply exercised more, became a bit more conscious of the protein intake and leaned up considerably.
Since fish is considered the healthiest out of the meat, fish, and poultry, and I’m certainly not a big fish fan (I’ve never cooked fish in my house), this year I’m adding fish, twice a week, to my dinner menu. In addition, as part of the 2008 4th-of-July-madness I’m giving up coffee as a everyday-must-have-otherwise-cannot-function necessity!

I can answer “yes” to all of the above. This is my regular, Monday to Friday, diet; I do my best to not diverge too far from it on the weekend as well. I of course indulge in whatever my friends have on their weekend menu; meaning that I wouldn’t say no or be super prissy when my friends invite me to dinner.
I have noticed that there is definitely a fat man living in me and he always comes out when i get really stressed, especially at work. I can stuff my face with any horrific junk food at the office. As I’ve mentioned before, I work in a cubicled world and if you imagine an office like a meerkat borough there would be pockets of sweets, every few turns, in the tunnels. It’s really cute if you can ignore them but if you like sweets it could turn bad.
I’ve been clean (not eating any of the mini Twix and snickers, etc.) for about a month but today a plate of donuts completely took me by surprise. I walked in the little kitchen to get my late afternoon lunch when I saw them. Just sitting there, looking all yummy and innocent. I never, ever buy donuts myself but they were just there… I ran away from the kitchen and ate my lunch hoping that “they” will be gone by the time I’m back to wash my plastic ware. I had to go back to grab a fork and then I knew it - if they were sill there when I was done with lunch I was going to have the Boston Cream one. I procrastinated and prolonged my lunch but when i went back to the kitchen they were there, waiting for me, looking all snugged and innocent.
