Who Writes to the Manufacturers?

January 23, 2007 on 6:40 am | In Food for Thought | No Comments

I recall Beccam telling me, on a couple of occasions, that she wrote to the manufacturer of particular consumer goods with suggestions. I was rather impressed and startled in the same time with her impulse and follow up strength. I thought, how do you find the energy to pick up the packaging, look for the website, go on the net, look for a contact and then formulate and write a constructive critique? Well, it is actually really easy, especially when it concerns a product you use on a regular basis. Like low-carb tortillas for burritos. I wasn’t angry nor had extra time on my hands but I knew exactly what I wanted to say and I wrote a comment on the Mission website. I buy the Mission ones, 8-count. They are twice as expensive but only have 10g net crabs, only 200 calories (less than in 2 thin slices of bread) and on top of that provide you with 8g of protein. This is approximately what I wrote them:

I really like the Carb Balance wheat tortillas (burrito size to prepare Milen Burritos). It is a great product. The problem I experience is with the packaging. Either the plastic of the bag is too thin or the re-sealable lining holds too strongly and regardless of how carefully I try to open the bag, on the 2nd or 3rd time I always end up tearing it apart. It is imperative for the tortillas to be tightly sealed – especially the low-carb ones – otherwise they dry out and break when used. I buy the regular wheat tortillas and I don’t experience the same problem.
