“Land’s End” by Michael Cunningham & “Angels and Demons”by Dan Brown
September 28, 2006 on 11:48 pm | In Read While You Drive | No CommentsOther books that I recently listened to were “Land’s End; A walk in Provincetown,” by Michael Cunningham and “Angels and Demons,” by Dan Brown.
“Land’s End” was very informative and well read. I liked the poetry woven into it. Although very informative and the most poetic book that I’ve read/listen to so far, definitely not his strongest. I love the way he uses the language and I’m proclaimed fan of Michael’s but “Land’s End” sounded fragmentary. I heard a lot of prototypes used in “Home at the End of the World,” which was interesting. I’d say that he wrote about a lot of the stuff I would about Provincetown and its enigma. Overall, 4****.
“Angels and Daemons,” on the other hand I enjoyed a lot better than “The Da Vinci Code.” What an engaging book that is; Dan Brown blows my mind with his research and ability to sound so incredibly convincing. Despite the fact that the book starts almost the same way as the “Code” and that its more plot driven I give it 5*****. It really gets you thinking, especially towards the end.
“The Kite Runner,” by Khaled Hosseini
September 26, 2006 on 10:55 pm | In Read While You Drive | No CommentsThe latest book I’ve been listening to is called “The Kite Runner,” by Khaled Hosseini. It is an unabridged version read by the author. One of the John Grisham books I listened to was narrated by the author himself but I didn’t really enjoy it because I didn’t like his accent. Khaled Hosseini, is a whole different story – I can’t even imagine “The Kite Runner” read by anyone else but the author. I’m so mesmerized by the way he pronounces the Afghan names that I had to edit a few snippets and put them on my blog.

I heard about this book from a few different people and I think it was on the most requested books list at the library too. By all means it is an amazing book. I’m giving it 4****.

Busy You Say!?
September 19, 2006 on 10:06 pm | In A Quickie | No CommentsI feel obliged to share my schedule with you my friends and tell you a little story related to it.
Monday – studying from early morning till about 5:00pm then driving to Boston for Audit and Assurance class - 7:15-10:00pm - from there driving back to bed on the Cape.
Tuesday – getting up at 6:00am to go to 7:00am Business Law class. After class gym and back to the house to study for 6:30pm Fraud Examination class.
Wednesday – preparing for Thursday class, work from 2:00pm to 6:30pm, then gym, dinner and bed.
Thursday – getting up at 6:00am to go to 7:00am Business Law class, from there straight to work; 4:30 end of workday and off to the gym. After the gym attempts to study.
Friday – getting up as early before 8:00 as possible to try to do some reading; 9:30 to 8:00pm WORK – Friday hell.
Saturday – 9:00am meeting at work. Getting out around 5:00pm. Attempts to study.
Sunday – work from 10:30am to 3:30pm. Before and after work studying for Tuesday class.
And then the vicious circle starts over!
If you look at Thursday and it is 5:00pm, second week of the cycle, I’m in my car in front of the gym trying to take a couple of deep breaths and relax before I enter the gym. Well, guess what! While I was trying to concentrate and switch to gym mode I FELL ASLEEP IN MY CAR. I woke up 10, 15 minutes later wandering where I was, rubbing my eyes and thinking “wow, I must be tired!” Can you imagine though? To fall asleep in my car in front of the gym!
Tobacco Free
September 16, 2006 on 7:17 am | In Announcement | No CommentsToday I can say that I quit smoking 4 months ago! I remember this one incident, I was going to Sue’s beach party and I was at the liquor store picking up the appropriate booze and mixers… I saw this tiny, little jar with olives and my moth just watered to a drip, thinking of a Bloody Mary with 2 of these hefty olives pierced together with a cocktail rapier. But then I picked up the jar and saw the price of $5-something and I almost dropped it thinking, “Gee, that’s almost a buck an olive,” you know how frugal I am – expense + (Emo). Then the natural Libra thing followed: “Should I get them? I want them! Are you crazy, 5 bucks for a couple of olives? No! Well, I don’t know. I really want them. I can even almost taste the saltiness… But 5 bucks, I don’t think they are really worth that much.” An all of a sudden it hit me – “hey I quit smoking! If I was still smoking I would have paid the freakin’ $5 and wouldn’t have even thought about It.” and with that, the case was quickly resolved. It is nice to have extra cash from kicking the habit to indulge on luxury items such as expensive olives!
Smokers please don’t hate me for saying it but “give it a thought, it is worth at least trying to quit!!!

September 10, 2006 on 7:08 pm | In You've got voicemail! | No CommentsNow that I took the time to play with the Audacity program and have all bunch of audios I figured I can put up Gino’s reply to his portrait here in my blog. While in NYC I made all possible attempts to reach him for a comment but he failed to call me back, therefore I’m using the phone message he had left on my cell shortly after he was exposed at Shukadarov.com. In essence it goes like the police line “anything you say can be used against you.”

Tell me whether he is guilty of being a little bear cub or not. Feel free to post a comment.
