4th of July Madness, category name or a motto?
May 18, 2006 on 7:00 pm | In 4th of July Madness | No CommentsLast year I introduced the “4th of July Madness” category that included a few entries. This series of entries were supposed to follow the transformational process of turning from “flab to fab,” in a little over of 2 weeks. Yesterday 05-16-06 was the official opening of this year 4th of July Madness. It started as category name but it has grown to be a health slogan, a motivational factor to do better and to excel in all fitness endeavors. This year the beginning of the 4th of July Madness season was marked by a significant event – I QUIT SMOKING. The motto has spread at work too; as long as I don’t smoke my coworkers will exercise!
Today is my third smoke free day. I’ve been contemplating to quit for at least 6 months and the beginning of the annual 4th of July Madness marathon seemed to be the perfect time to do it. I’m so hooked on the shit that I had to buy the nicotine patch.
It wasn’t just slapping the patch on… when you buy the patch it comes in the form of a kit. It is called “Nicotine Transdermal System stop smoking aid patch;” It came with a little booklet and a CD. The booklet talks about a personal quit plan; it urges the quitter to understand his/r addiction before attempting to quit. One thing I really like is the fact that it clarifies that the patch can help you suppress the physical need of nicotine but there are mental triggers that you should acknowledge and constantly work to tame. I’m even using the “Daily Success Calendar” at the end of the booklet. I wanted to keep it here in the blog but I have to ship out my laptop for repair so I won’t have this pleasure. I’ll try to keep you posted or in the worst case I’ll let you know how it is going when I get it back.

Free of School for a Couple of Months
May 12, 2006 on 9:06 am | In School | No CommentsAnother semester is successfully completed!!! Yesterday was my last class for the semester. I had this huge paper due for Geography class. I even took both my days off for this week before the class so that I can work on those essays. When I say that the essays he gives us are hard and require extra time and care people look at me in disbelieve so I decided to show you the question the professor posed for the final exam:
It has been asserted that the West’s celebration of “diversity” facilitates the ongoing expansion of capitalism in the third world. Select two of the tree regions we have most recently discussed in class (Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, or the Middle East) as case studies and examine in two separate essays (five pages each) the nature of diversity in each of the selected regions. For each essay, identify the contributing historical and geographical factors, describe the nature and character of diversity, and explore how the resulting diversity facilitates the expansion of global capitalism, for better, or worst.
Mind you the book doesn’t talk about any of that and good luck trying to find information on the internet. Well, I’m writing about this mainly because I got “A’s” on all of my papers. I also found out today that I got “A” in both Suffolk classes I took this semester – Accounting Information Systems and Operations Management. The last one was the class in which we did the Black Dog project.
